At a news conference at City Hall, landlords say the moratorium could push some of them into bankruptcy and foreclosure because it doesn’t allow them to collect rent and some of their tenants are taking advantage of the situation.

It is so that developers and bankers can acquire these distressed properties at a loss and then buy them on the cheap.

And...you're saying the moratoriums will end after that happens? Golly, Congress should pass a law making this illegal! :)

This is an LA local law, not federal.

There were rent moratoriums for the last 2 years, the fact that this particular one was local doesn't change the intent. The whole COVID bullshit lockdown was used to destroy small business/landholders.

Don't be shocked if there are some Jewish Lightening Strikes on these distressed properties.

In the finale of Homicide: Life on the Street movie, there was a black nationalist character who suggested as much. The property around Baltimore's inner harbor would be worth billions, if it wasn't surrounded by....Baltimore.

That movie probably would have never aired if they hadn't blamed the generic (((bankers))).

Yet this is my favorite line from the series:

Tim Bayliss: [Blocks his path] Oh, really? Now what are you gonna do, Frank? Not say a word? You gonna keep my little secret to yourself?

Frank Pembleton: Son of a bitch, you SON of a BITCH! You murdered him!

Tim Bayliss: I executed him, Frank.

I think I've told most of my friends here about my physical disabilities (arthrogryposis being prevalent), but I would make a horrible cop regardless. I think scum should die, without costing the taxpayer one more red fucking cent. It sounds fun, but humans sometimes get carried away...

And that's why watching Gunsmoke re-runs are always gratifying here.

Except for "The Bridges of Madison County," Clint was always Clint, much like John Wayne was always John Wayne.

Harry Callahan is my role model.

The new neighbor here who recently moved into brick house next door has three dogs. They had a privacy fence put up to keep the dogs in.

I was sitting in the chair out front and one of the dogs was looking thru the crack between the boards and barking at me.

I wonder who picks up the land mines they leave behind? LOL
