Elon Musk backs California Republicans who just forced Democrats to “pick pedophiles or children”

Golden State Democrats are in full damage-control mode after the state’s lower house made one shocking move.
And the effort to protect child predators went over like a lead balloon.
Elon Musk just backed California Republicans who are forcing Democrats to “pick pedophiles or children.”
Republicans are mostly an afterthought in California politics.
They’re there, but the amount of power they wield is negligible at best.
But one shocking move by Democrats running the California Assembly (similar to a House of Representatives in most states) is creating a massive outcry that has even the state’s leftist governor stepping in.
The Sacramento Bee reported on the situation that has local news outlets baffled.
In a piece entitled “Death threats and pedophilia accusations. How child trafficking took over California’s Capitol,” the Sacramento Bee writer Lindsey Holden explained that Republicans are suddenly having an outsized impact on the state’s legislative process.
“California Democrats spent the final few days before summer recess in an unusual spot: embroiled in a legislative fight with Republicans, who typically operate in the shadow of the state’s blue supermajority,” Holden wrote.

She explained that lawmakers who killed a bill that would have made child sex trafficking a “serious” felony “had doubled-back and advanced Senate Bill 14 in an emergency hearing of the Senate Public Safety committee.”
Holden appeared concerned that a “party with almost no political power” managed to pull off a last-minute victory and blamed it on “fear-based messaging.”

“How did a party with almost no power in California manage to achieve a political win?” Holden wrote. “In part by employing simplistic, fear- based messaging that exploited the divide between progressive and moderate Democrats on criminal justice reform. Social media posts amplifying the bill’s failure suggested Democrats are soft on crime, especially related to children.”
Of course, most normal well-adjusted people would clearly consider the idea that child sex trafficking is not a “serious” felony horrifying.
That was certainly billionaire Elon Musk’s take on the issue.
On July 12 Musk tweeted, “A. How is it not already a serious felony? B. Wtf!?”
Musk chimes in stating the obvious question
Republican Senator Shannon Grove, the author of the bill, responded to his post.
“I thought the same thing, that’s why I introduced the bill, #SB14,” she replied. “Yet, Democrats on Asm. Public Safety Committee still killed it.”
“They have the power to bring it back for reconsideration,” she added.
On July 13 Republican Assemblyman Heath Flora added to the pressure California Democrats were already facing online, noting that they needed to make a serious choice.
“Pick pedophiles or children,” he said.
The bill was soon revived through an emergency committee hearing and is now scheduled to be voted on by the entire Assembly following a month- long recess.
The question now is whether Republicans will be able to hold their feet to the fire long enough to force them to finally take kidnapping helpless children and subjecting them to unthinkable horrors “seriously.”
