The Volkswagen ID.3, which retails at £35,000 ($44,600.50), weighs around 1,800 kilograms (3,968 pounds) because of its heavy battery. The hatchback's weight puts it in the same weight division as a Jeep Wrangler 4x4 vehicle.

Those EV cars are not so heavy. Trucks (18 wheelers) can tear up roads quickly. Fines for overweight trucks can be a penny a pound. They will give you up to 500 pounds over. After that you had better open your wallet.
When I worked for Illinois State Highways, the State sent in a special crew to check the road base on a recently rebuilt section of roadway.
The base under the concrete was supposed to be six inches of #2 gravel.
When a short spot was found you had to back up 100 feet so they could drill a new hole. Have you ever tried to back up and arrow board? Not so easy with the shorter wheelbase.
In some places it was only two inches and in others it was mixed with junk such as ground up car batteries.
The fines on the contractor were so large they went bankrupt and reopened under a different name. ;)
