My neighbor across the street was with the Sheriff's Dept. and a member of the ANG and volunteered after 9-11 changed everything. He came to me wanting money for LASIC surgery so he didn't have to take eyeglasses into combat. I gladly gave him the money, knowing he wouldn't deploy overseas for like a year after any surgery. They made him an MP picking up guys who deserted their obligations.
