Wassily Leontief did an input-output analysis on the US economy in the 1930s for which he won a Nobel Prize. He proved that US wages are one-third higher than in Europe, because we added value to abundant natural resources. Conversely, when we hit 150 million, we had to import natural resources and pay for them with exports that are over priced.
