There’s something deeply unsettling when those entrusted to guide our children’s education choose instead to champion chaos in the streets. Like shepherds abandoning their flock to join a wolf pack, America’s most powerful teacher union leaders have revealed where their true loyalties lie—and it’s not in the classroom.

For decades, parents have watched as teachers unions drifted further from their supposed mission. While test scores stagnated and literacy rates plummeted, union bosses found time for every progressive cause except the one that mattered most: actually educating children. Call me old-fashioned, but when I think “education leader,” I picture someone focused on reading scores, not riot solidarity. These organizations have funded political campaigns, organized protests, and lobbied for everything from climate activism to gender ideology in schools—you’d think with American kids ranking poorly internationally, they might have other priorities.

The National Education Association and American Federation of Teachers represent millions of educators and collect billions in dues ostensibly to improve education. Parents expect this power to be used responsibly, focused on creating better learning environments. Maybe I’m missing something, but shouldn’t these people be laser-focused on the classroom crisis they’re supposed to solve?
