True, only if referenced to 2000. I went in hard at the 2009 stock market crash $904 Au, $9.00 Ag.

During that timeframe PMs kind of languished. I was in-the-money, but not keeping up with inflation.

As you can see from the above chart, gold didn't break out until recently. Here's a more recent chart:

You can see a decoupling around 2013, but there was a lot of stock moves I made that were more significant, by chasing dividends.

Best trade I ever made was doubling down on Exxon-Mobil when Dakkie asked me about stonks about the time it became obvious that the Dems had stolen the 2020 election.

Exxom-Mobil [XOM] was ~$40/share with a 10+% dividend yield which promptly went to ~$120/share as the Sniffer's anti-oil (can't live without oil) policies came to light.

Today XOM is $114 with a yield of 3.96%, better than the 0.01% Chase pays me on cash.

If you were to take that awesome 2000 chart, chop it off at 2010 and reset everything at zero, you can see what a bad long-term investemt gold is.

Here's a fictionalized account of my neighbor's 49 y/o wife dying in Gulf Shores Alabama. Angie's last wish was to see the ocean for the last time. Four of Chris's buds bought round trip airfare an a condo for them and two children. Ange died there, Chris rented a car to come home with the kids and used the residual from the ticket to recover her cremains. He learned a lot from me in 32 years.
