Deaths Attributed to US Sanctions (From Brave's AI Leo)

According to a landmark study published in The Lancet Global Health, conducted by economists at the Center for Economic and Policy Research, US and EU sanctions have been associated with approximately 38 million deaths between 1971 and 2021 


Key findings include:

~564,000 deaths per year on average over the 50-year study period — comparable to the annual global death toll from armed conflict (~106,000 battle-related deaths) 
51% of deaths were children under five, primarily due to malnutrition weakening immunity to diseases like diarrhea and pneumonia 

The strongest effects were found for unilateral, economic, and specifically US sanctions, with no statistical evidence of a similar effect for UN sanctions  Since 2012 alone, sanctions have been linked to the deaths of more than one million children 

The study analyzed mortality data across 152 countries and found that the human toll is roughly equivalent to total deaths from wars, including civilian casualties
