Geologist and climate change critic Tony Heller joins Jimmy to discuss a new study in Science Advances showing that offshore wind turbines warm the sea surface by up to 1°C by slowing wind, which weakens ocean mixing, shuts down upwelling, and traps heat at the surface—with effects appearing within days and spreading dozens of kilometers from the wind farm. He notes that wind turbines are designed to extract energy from the weather system, intentionally altering weather patterns, and that a wind farm near his home in Cheyenne, Wyoming has already reduced local snowfall.
Heller criticizes the enormous cost and difficulty of dismantling wind farms, pointing to a rusted, defunct wind farm on the southern tip of Hawaii as an example of what will become a widespread eyesore, and notes that one California wind farm has killed an estimated 20% of the United States’ golden eagle population. He concludes that the environmental movement has been “hijacked by climate scamsters” who have turned climate activism into a money grab, similar to how big pharma turned COVID into a profit-driven operation

Trump payment to Jean Carroll grows to $100 million
A federal appeals court ruled this week that President Donald Trump doesn’t need to pay an $83 million defamation award to writer E. Jean Carroll until the Supreme Court either reviews the case or decides to pass on it.
The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York issued the order Monday after Trump asked it to pause its earlier ruling denying him a chance to challenge the defamation award before the full appeals court.

The court granted Trump’s request to pause that ruling, citing no objection from Carroll so long as Trump agreed to raise the bond by $7.46 million to account for interest that would accrue on her award during further legal proceedings that are expected to extend to the Supreme Court.
“We are pleased that the Second Circuit conditioned the stay on President Trump posting a bond of nearly $100 million,” Carroll’s attorney, Roberta Kaplan, told NBC News in a statement, citing the earlier increase Trump already posted to bring the amount owed to over $91 million prior to Monday’s order.

In 1999, Merck launched a new anti-inflammatory drug called Vioxx. A triumph of marketing. Easier on the stomach than ibuprofen, the adverts said. Suitable for arthritis, back pain, period pain, anything that ached. By 2003 it was earning Merck around 2.5 billion dollars a year and had been prescribed to roughly 80 million people worldwide.
Internal Merck documents would later show that the company had evidence by the year 2000 that Vioxx significantly increased the risk of heart attack and stroke.
They knew. They had the data. They had emails between executives discussing how to manage the data. In one memorable email, a Merck scientist describes what to do about researchers raising concerns: "We may need to seek them out and destroy them where they live."
