A newly published case report in Frontiers in Neuroscience describes a remarkable and unexpected clinical response in an 80-year-old woman with advanced Alzheimer’s disease following a single high-dose psilocybin intervention.
The patient had lived with Alzheimer’s disease for approximately 10 years and experienced severe functional decline over the preceding five years. According to the report, she had become largely monosyllabic, demonstrated profound cognitive impairment, chronic urinary incontinence, impaired mobility, dysphagia, executive dysfunction and severe reduction in spontaneous communication and emotional engagement.
After receiving a single 5g oral dose of psilocybin-containing mushrooms (Enigma strain), the patient reportedly experienced rapid and sustained functional improvement across multiple domains.
During the acute phase, the patient entered a prolonged deep sleep-like state accompanied by profuse sweating and clinically suspected hyperthermia.
Then, approximately 19 hours later, something unexpected occurred.
The patient spontaneously awakened and began speaking for hours, engaging in autobiographical conversation and recalling memories that had not been expressed in years.
Over the following days, her family reported meaningful improvements in:
Speech and communication.
Memory and contextual recognition.
Walking and mobility.
Emotional connection and social engagement.
Bladder control, after years of chronic urinary incontinence.
Most notably, the improvements were not merely immediate and fleeting.
At 1-month follow-up, bladder control reportedly remained restored and the patient was described as still functionally improved compared with baseline. Due to the persistence of meaningful benefits, a second supervised psilocybin session was performed one month later.
To be clear, this is one published case report, not a randomised controlled trial, and causality cannot be established.
Nevertheless, the implications are difficult to ignore.
There are currently no approved Alzheimer’s medications known to produce rapid, multi-domain improvements of this magnitude in advanced disease. Existing therapies may modestly slow decline or provide limited symptomatic benefit in some patients, but none are known to rapidly restore speech, continence, emotional engagement and functional capacity in a patient with advanced Alzheimer’s.
Two of my grandparents died with advanced Alzheimer’s disease, and every medication they were prescribed ultimately failed to meaningfully alter the course of decline. Millions of families across the world face the same devastating reality.
These findings urgently need replication. For millions watching a parent or loved one disappear to Alzheimer’s, even the possibility of restoring lost function warrants serious scientific investigation.

The heartbroken mother told KCRA that the burn injuries cover “the whole side of his face, down his neck, all the way down his right arm, and across his back.”
“The pain he’s experiencing is so excruciating that they can’t give him the level of pain medicine outside of the ICU,” she said. “They’re just telling me that their goal right now is to decrease the size of the burn on his back and his neck area to try to minimize the amount of skin grafting that they’re looking at having to do, but, you know, it’s going to potentially become more painful.”
“I want justice to be served. I want him to serve the time that he needs to serve, you know, for what he’s done to my son… I don’t wish bad things towards him,” Smith added. “I want him to understand what he did, like really understand what he did, and the pain that he caused to my son was excruciating.”

The Real Reason the FAA Authorized the COVID Shots Revealed in Court Documents
“Does a coerced medical treatment, under threat, produce a coerced and illegal declaration by the pilot receiving such treatment?” His answer to that question is “Yes, it breaks a link in the safety chain in aviation.”
He added, “The definite adverse side effects of the shots, as advertised by the manufacturers, which include blood clotting and heart complications, may permanently ground pilots; thus, pilots are less likely to declare such conditions, while they continue to fly, for fear of losing their medical and their livelihood.”
“Historically, for safety reasons,” Saliba said, “the FAA does not consider any medication that has not been fully FDA approved for at least 12 months.”
However, in the case of the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) drugs, the FAA moved quickly and granted approval for their use immediately after receiving FDA approval.
Saliba shared that many, including Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI), who is an outspoken critic and an advocate for EUA-injured pilots, have raised a legitimate safety concern regarding why and how the FAA acted so swiftly, deviating from standard procedures.
“The FAA has never officially stated the true reason for the EUA authorization; however, in an interview given by Northrup shortly after she became the Federal Air Surgeon on January 17, 2021,” he said, “the reason for such authorization was revealed.”
Northrup disclosed that “…the office of Aerospace medicine had never approved a medication or treatment that was not fully approved by the FDA for at least a year. However, given the critical nature of attaining herd immunity, to date we have approved three vaccines approved by the FDA under Emergency Use Authorizations…”
Northrup’s statement was “explosive” because, according to Saliba, “the FAA does not have agency authority granted in the law to ‘attain herd immunity’ (emphasis mine).”
“It is in fact quite the opposite. The FAA’s goal, for safety reasons, is to limit or guide the use of drugs by pilots as best it can, and the medical certification process does not lend itself to attaining herd immunity, he explained.”
“While herd immunity remains a subject of debate,” Saliba contended, “the FAA exceeded its authority; therefore, the EUAs have been unlawfully authorized and thus illegal.”
“A court ruling that finds the FAA did indeed exceed its authority requires the court to strike the authorization of the EUA drugs, which will send a shockwave in the airline industry, and the air traffic controller ranks and possibly the military.” That Judicial Review Case No. 26-1042 is currently at the D.C. Court of Appeals.
In late 2023, Saliba also filed an FAA safety complaint regarding airline pressure on pilots to use the EUAs, which included the use of Johnson & Johnson between April 19, 2021, and December 23, 2022. “Following reports of rare but serious blood clotting in the brain,” he said, “the FDA suspended the J&J for a short time, but the FAA followed the pause recommendation for the longer period.”
“The FAA Office of Audit and Evaluation initiated an investigation that was immediately shelved by Northrup,” said the former commercial pilot. He added that Northrup’s refusal to investigate generated the first Mandamus lawsuit. A Mandamus is the legal mechanism to compel the FAA to perform non-discretionary duty. Currently, Case No. 25-3884, is pending before the Ninth Circuit on appeal.
“Striking the EUA authorization and compelling the FAA to investigate may allow injured pilots and air traffic controllers to find remedy and vindicate those who refused to use these drugs,” Saliba concluded.

Britain’s debt mountain has grown faster than any other country except Botswana over the past 25 years, an analysis of data shows.
Between 2001 and 2026, the UK’s net debt as a percentage of GDP tripled from 30.4 per cent to 95.5 per cent, according to figures from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The 65 percentage point rise was second only to Botswana, which experienced an astonishing 167.1 percentage point rise over the same period.
The African country was a notable outlier in the data as its net debt as a percentage of GDP grew from -121.9 per cent in 2001, when it ran a large budget surplus, to 45.2 per cent this year.
The UK’s position almost at the top of the global debt league table – of countries for which a full set of IMF data was available over the past 25 years – sparked fresh warnings about the parlous state of Britain’s public finances.
According to separate data from the Office for National Statistics, published last month, UK Government borrowing in April was £4.9 billion higher than a year earlier.
This meant it was the second highest April level on record – surpassed only during the Covid pandemic, when borrowing was sent rocketing.
Meanwhile, interest costs on Government debt hit £10.3billion, a record April high and £900 million more than a year ago, as rising inflation impacted index-linked gilts.

Officials said Friday that San Carlos Lake, one of the largest lakes in Arizona, has closed until further notice.

Officials say the lake has about 158 miles of shoreline and holds state records for largemouth bass, black crappie, bluegill, channel catfish and flathead fish. It is also usually stocked with brown trout and rainbow trout year-round.

Social Security is barreling toward a 24% across-the-board benefit cut in 2032 that would slash roughly $500 a month from the average retiree’s check — a hit that totals about $345 billion a year nationwide, according to a first-of-its-kind report from the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, a Washington fiscal watchdog.
The CRFB warns that Social Security’s main retirement trust fund is on track to be exhausted in 2032, at which point, by law, the program can only pay out what it collects in payroll taxes and other dedicated revenues. Without congressional action, that mechanical constraint would trigger an immediate 24% cut for every beneficiary—even current retirees who built their plans around the promise of full benefits.
On paper, that’s a line in an actuarial report; in practice, it’s a pay cut bigger than the average retired household’s food budget. CRFB calculates that the typical retiree would see their monthly check shrink by about $500, more than they currently spend on groceries in a month, while total annual retirement benefits would fall by $345 billion, or about 1.1% of U.S. gross domestic product.

Is university a waste of money? HALF of graduates earn below the average wage five years after leaving amid warnings over 'debt trap degrees'
The findings mean more than 150,000 graduates a year struggled to even reach the median full-time worker's salary of £35,000 in the UK.

Why Depression Rates Are Higher Among Liberals
American adults who identify as politically liberal have long reported lower levels of happiness and psychological well-being than conservatives, a trend that mental-health experts suspect is at least partly explained by liberals’ tendency to spend more time worrying about stress-inducing topics like racial injustice, income inequality, gun violence, and climate change.
Now a team of Columbia epidemiologists has found evidence that the same pattern holds for American teenagers. The researchers analyzed surveys collected from more than eighty-six thousand twelfth graders over a thirteen-year period and discovered that while rates of depression have been rising among students of all political persuasions and demographics, they have been increasing most sharply among progressive students — and especially among liberal girls from low-income families.

Your book debunks a lot of common myths about Satanism. But perhaps the most important one to understand is that modern Satanists don’t actually worship the devil. If that’s so, what do Satanists believe?
Exactly right. There are many different kinds of Satanists, but most don’t actually believe in Satan and don’t worship him as either a god or as a force of evil. For the most part, Satanists are non-theists and view Satanism as a personal liberation from traditional theistic beliefs. We value nonconformity and revolt against the ideas of superstition and arbitrary authority. Modern Satanists are nonviolent and interested in the pursuit of reason, justice, and truth.
Why use Satan, then — certainly a controversial idea or figure?
Essentially, Satan is a metaphor. We believe in the historical idea of Lucifer as a light-bringer, a principled rebel angel willing to stand up against arbitrary rules or authority. In Western countries in particular, Christianity is so dominant. Many people who identify as Satanists were raised in religious, restrictive households and made to feel oppressed because they were different in some way. So by using Satan as a symbol, we’re taking that narrative back and making it our own.
How did you become interested in Satanism?
La CarminaI’ve always been interested in gothic fashion and dark subcultures. When I moved from Vancouver to New York for college, my friends and I would hang out in the East Village, at places like the Pyramid Club, and see heavy metal. There’s a lot of overlap between those scenes and Satanism, so that was my first introduction.
After I graduated from law school, I decided not to practice and to focus on my work as a travel and fashion blogger, which gave me the opportunity to spend a lot of time in Japan. There’s a really vibrant and welcoming Satanic subculture there — which is notable in such a conformist society — and I started to understand more about those values. I found out that Satanists are not criminals or bad people; they’re just people pursuing their highest sense of self, and that idea was attractive to me.
in recent years, Satanists have engaged in activism around issues that I believe in, like reproductive rights and LGBTQ+ causes. As someone with a legal background, this side of Satanism really appealed to me.
One of the major tenets of Satanism is nonconformity. Is there a communal aspect, or would that be a contradiction?
Some people prefer to be lone wolves, and probably more so in Satanism than in other groups. But I think that for the most part, people do feel a sense of community. Many Satanic groups host community events — things like charity drives and beach cleanups, as well as online gatherings. People find strength in being with other people that share their values, even if that value is nonconformity.
Your book chronicles some of the major periods when Satanism has been used as a scapegoat for societal problems. Do you think we’re in such a panic now?
Throughout history, people have been unjustly persecuted, marginalized, and even hunted down and executed for being different. During periods of religious fervor, anyone who didn’t fit specific definitions of piousness were called devil worshipers. So yes, in a sense the Satanic Panic has never ended. We are still living in a society with tremendous theocratic influence, which dictates both laws and culture, and there are still very common misconceptions around Satanism. But modern Satanism is flourishing, with a renewed emphasis on charitable work and activism, and I’m optimistic about its future.
Most people imagine the devil as a red creature with horns and a pointed tail. But in your book you describe the many other visual iterations of Satan over the centuries. If you were to dress as Satan for Halloween, which depiction would you choose?
I love this question! In researching the book, I found it so interesting to see how different groups depicted the devil through history and how those depictions reflected the values of those periods. In medieval times, they made him a scary beast who devoured sinners. During the Enlightenment, there was a much more sympathetic view of the devil, who was seen as a sort of rebel defying ecclesiastical rule, so he was often depicted as a classical muscled hero. Often Satan is depicted with goats or as a horned and hoofed figure — a reference to the Gospel of Matthew, which says that Jesus will separate the sheep from the goats on Judgment Day. But there have been many interpretations of that as well. In Japan, you’ll often see a cute, almost cuddly goat-headed Satan. That one might be my favorite — it opens conversations and challenges people’s expectations.
