  El Niño is a naturally occurring climate phenomenon characterized by unusually warm ocean surface temperatures in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific. During an event, standard trade winds weaken, causing warm water to shift toward the Americas instead of Asia, altering global weather patterns.

Temperatures on the ocean surface hit a record high in June, European scientists warned Wednesday, fueling fears of more dangerous heat waves this summer and fanning concerns over the escalating global climate crisis.

Two separate services under the European Union’s Copernicus earth observation program — the Copernicus Climate Change Service and the Copernicus Marine Service — announced they had both independently confirmed the record temperatures.

This is very alarming news.

According to the Copernicus Marine Service, the average ocean surface temperature actually reached a level of 20.98 degrees Celsius…

Global average sea surface temperatures in June were 20.98C, beating the previous records of 2023 and 2024, according to the European Union’s Copernicus Marine Service.

I am particularly concerned about the massive heat wave that we are witnessing in the northern Pacific.

On beaches all along the west coast, the consequences of this heat wave are clearly visible…

Within minutes of walking on a San Diego beach, marine ornithologist Tammy Russell found the feathered carcasses — one after another.

Some were mixed in with washed up kelp. Others were under rocks.

Each month, scientists and volunteers conduct surveys of dead seabirds and find what Russell describes as a grim assessment of the impact of a massive marine heat wave that has lingered for months off parts of the California coast.

The reason why so many seabirds are starving to death is because the little critters that they normally eat in the ocean are all being wiped out by the heat wave…

Many seabirds, including California brown pelicans, loons and grebes, starved to death in recent months as record-setting ocean temperatures decreased the band of cold, nutrient-rich surface water where krill, anchovies and sardines thrive near the shore, said Russell, a postdoctoral scholar at the University of California, San Diego, Scripps Institution of Oceanography.

“We’ve been seeing cormorants walk to shore and then just die within the hour. I mean one time it happened within 15 minutes, and I’ve never seen that before,” Russell said. “That has been heartbreaking for me and we’re seeing this happening across the whole coast.”

  A remote former Coast Guard tower off the coast of North Carolina has become one of the country's most unusual vacation destinations, with thrill-seekers paying to spend days stranded 35 miles out in the Atlantic on what's been dubbed the world's most dangerous hotel, according to the NY Post.

Interest in Frying Pan Tower recently surged after charter captain Austin Aycock posted a TikTok showing six guests being dropped off at the rusting structure before he motored away, joking, "See you in a couple days!" The video has attracted more than 2.2 million views, with viewers split between fascination and disbelief.

Built in 1964, the decommissioned light station sits about 80 feet above the ocean in an area known as the "Graveyard of the Atlantic." Once guests arrive, there's no easy way back. Leaving requires either a helicopter or a 35-mile boat ride to shore.

The Post writes that rates start at about $200 per person per night with a three-night minimum stay. Aycock said one particularly adventurous group remained on the tower for two weeks.

The location isn't for the faint of heart. The surrounding waters are home to great white, bull, and tiger sharks, while the tower sits in hurricane-prone waters where storms can bring winds exceeding 100 mph. Medical emergencies also present a challenge due to the remote location.

Despite its isolation, the tower can accommodate up to 12 guests across eight bedrooms and offers modern comforts including solar power, high-speed internet, hot showers, a fully equipped kitchen, and a reverse osmosis water system.

Visitors can fish, snorkel over a nearby reef, shoot biodegradable clay targets, or hit fish-food golf balls into the ocean. A professional chef is also available for private groups, while the massive helipad doubles as a scenic spot for stargazing and watching the sunrise.

The viral video sparked plenty of reactions online. Some commenters said nothing could convince them to stay overnight, while others joked the tower would be the perfect place to hide from a zombie apocalypse. One viewer summed up the skepticism by asking, "What's the opposite of a bucket list?"

The mechanism for how a bubble bursts is the part most investors never think about.

Paper wealth is not money, bubbles do not burst because fundamentals disappoint.

They burst when a large enough group of wealth holders are simultaneously forced to convert that wealth into cash.

What makes the current setup specifically fragile is the concentration.

The top 10% of Americans now hold nearly 90% of all equities, when that group needs liquidity for any reason, the selling pressure falls on a market that is structurally narrow.
