Advantages to trained and fit older people.

SS-31 (Elamipretide) is a mitochondrial-targeting peptide that binds to cardiolipin in the inner mitochondrial membrane, stabilizing its structure to improve ATP production and reduce reactive oxygen species (ROS).  This mechanism supports energy metabolism in high-demand tissues, offering benefits for physical recovery, cognitive function, and cardiovascular health.

Key Benefits Include:

Enhanced Energy and Endurance: By optimizing the electron transport chain, SS-31 increases cellular energy output, which may improve exercise tolerance, reduce fatigue, and support muscle performance in aging or degenerative conditions.

Mitochondrial Protection: It scavenges ROS at the source and prevents mitochondrial membrane damage, potentially slowing cellular decline associated with aging and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s.

Cardiovascular Support: Research indicates SS-31 can improve heart function by reversing diastolic dysfunction and protecting cardiac cells from oxidative stress and hypertrophy.

Neuroprotection: The peptide may protect neurons from oxidative damage and inflammation, potentially improving memory, focus, and resilience against age-related cognitive loss.

Tissue Repair: Evidence suggests benefits for kidney health, reducing oxidative stress in chronic kidney disease and accelerating recovery from acute injury.

SS-31 is non-hormonal and works directly within the mitochondria rather than on surface receptors.  While it has shown promise in clinical trials for conditions like Barth syndrome and primary mitochondrial myopathy, it is not yet FDA-approved for general commercial use and is often accessed via physician-prescribed compounded formulations.

  What SS-31 actually is, and what the trials really showedreddit.com › r › NTNPerformance › comments › 1u0ag9f › what_ss31_actually_is_and_what_the_trials_really

I'm only on day 5 of 500mcg daily of ss31 and holy crap! I really don't care what any studies show I feel amazing! Just like an overall energy I didnt have before but not jittery or weird. I'm a 42 male for reference.

MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid mitochondrial-derived peptide (CAS: 1627580-64-6) primarily sourced for metabolic regulation, longevity, and insulin sensitivity research.  Suppliers typically offer it as a white lyophilized powder with ≥99% purity, available in vials (5mg–40mg) or pre-mixed kits.

Key Sourcing Channels and SuppliersUnited States Manufacturers: Suppliers like Limitless Biotech, BioLongevity Labs, and Oath Research manufacture MOTS-c domestically, emphasizing third-party Certificates of Analysis (COAs), endotoxin testing, and same-day shipping.

Wholesale and Bulk Supply: Platforms like PeptideSourceHub and Global Sources connect buyers with China-based factory-direct suppliers for bulk orders, private labeling, and OEM packaging, often providing HPLC and MS data.

Specialty Retailers: Companies such as Peptide Works, Dynamic Peptides, and Verified Peptides offer individual vials, nasal sprays, or pre-mixed pens for laboratory use, often including bacteriostatic water and syringes in kits.

Product Specifications and PricingPurity and Testing: Most reputable suppliers guarantee ≥99% purity via HPLC/MS, with independent lab reports available for verification.

Common Forms: Available as lyophilized powder for reconstitution, nasal sprays (15ml/30ml), or pre-mixed peptide pens.

Price Range: Costs vary by quantity and origin, with single 10mg vials typically ranging from $45 to $175 in the US, while wholesale bulk orders from international manufacturers can be significantly lower per milligram.

Foods that naturally support cardiolipin

Sardines, mackerel, salmon (omega‑3s)

Spinach, almonds, avocado (magnesium)

Green tea, turmeric, blueberries (polyphenols)

Organ meats (CoQ10)

Lentils & whole grains (B‑vitamins for mitochondrial enzymes)

Evidence-based “natural” ways to support cardiolipin

1. CoQ10 — mitochondrial antioxidant

CoQ10 reduces oxidative stress in mitochondria and protects lipids like cardiolipin from peroxidation.

Helps stabilize electron transport chain

Supports ATP production

Reduces cardiolipin oxidation (inferred from its role as a lipid antioxidant)

2. Omega‑3 fatty acids (EPA/DHA)

Cardiolipin contains unsaturated fatty acids and is highly prone to oxidation. Omega‑3s:

Improve mitochondrial membrane fluidity

Reduce inflammation

Lower oxidative damage to lipids

3. Alpha-lipoic acid

A mitochondrial antioxidant shown to:

Regenerate other antioxidants (C, E, glutathione)

Reduce lipid peroxidation

Improve mitochondrial enzyme activity

4. Acetyl‑L‑carnitine

Supports fatty acid transport into mitochondria and improves mitochondrial efficiency.

Better mitochondrial function = less cardiolipin oxidation.

5. Magnesium

Essential for ATP production and stabilizing mitochondrial membranes.

Low magnesium increases oxidative stress.

6. Polyphenols (green tea, turmeric, berries)

Strong antioxidants that reduce ROS — the main driver of cardiolipin oxidation.

EGCG and curcumin have documented mitochondrial protective effects.

7. Exercise (especially HIIT or sprints)

Stimulates mitochondrial biogenesis and improves cardiolipin remodeling.

This is one of the strongest natural ways to improve cardiolipin function.

8. Sauna

Heat stress increases mitochondrial resilience and antioxidant capacity.

I upped my Glycine intake to 12 grams a day. I also take Glycine capsules. I have a condition that can be treated
if I win the lottery. Then I can offer the same treatment to others at my clinic.

I've decided not to name it "Dr Horse's Clinic for Humans."

Too bad about the whole needle thing for peptides.

That item I ordered from Amazon in my recent post actually handles inflammation. Nattokinase  did
wonders for my Blood Pressure. My BP is better than most people 30 years younger.
