An 89 Year Old New Zealand Survey Photo Just Blew The Amelia Earhart Mystery Open 

 

Amelia Earhart vanished over the Pacific in 1937 and America never got an answer.

Researchers just admitted a photograph taken one year later has been hiding in plain sight.

What that photograph shows could finally tell us what really happened to her plane.

A 1938 Survey Photo Sat Ignored For Nearly 90 Years

Amelia Earhart disappeared on July 2, 1937, attempting to fly around the world at the equator.

She never made it.

For 89 years her disappearance sat treated as an unsolvable riddle, picked over by TIGHAR researchers and amateur historians while the bigger institutions moved on.

 Now researchers say part of the answer was sitting in an old photo archive the entire time.

In 1938, a New Zealand survey team scouting Nikumaroro as a possible coconut plantation site snapped an aerial photograph of the island's lagoon.

Buried in that photo is an object jutting out of the water that researchers now call the Taraia Object.

Footage and imagery from 1938 all the way through 2024 show that same object sitting in roughly the same spot, buried and occasionally re-exposed by the tide.

 Richard Pettigrew, who runs the Archaeological Legacy Institute, believes the Taraia Object matches the shape and dimensions of Earhart's Lockheed Electra 10-E.

"The evidence supporting the Nikumaroro Hypothesis remains compelling," he said.

Nobody put the photo and the theory together for decades.
