The Monthly Treasury Statement for July 2026 was released on August 12, 2026.  The U.S. government reported a deficit of $432.3 billion for the month, with total receipts of $334.0 billion and total outlays of $766.3 billion.

Receipts: Total receipts were $334.0 billion, comprising $231.5 billion in on-budget receipts and $102.5 billion in off-budget receipts.

Outlays: Total outlays reached $766.3 billion, with $643.2 billion on-budget and $123.1 billion off-budget.

Context: July is historically a deficit month; outlays for military retirement, veterans benefits, and Medicare were accelerated into July because the normal August 1 payment date fell on a non-business day.

Year-to-Date (FY26): Through July, the cumulative deficit stands at $1,798.8 billion, with year-to-date receipts of $4,485.4 billion and outlays of $6,284.2 billion.

Key Drivers of the July DeficitThe deficit widened by 48% compared to July 2025 ($291.1 billion), primarily due to a $137 billion increase in outlays and a slight decline in receipts.

Spending Surge: Total outlays hit $766.3 billion. A significant portion of this increase was technical: $99 billion in benefit payments normally issued in August were shifted to July because August 1 fell on a non-business day.

Major Expense Categories: Even excluding the timing shift, spending rose across critical areas:

Medicare: The largest single category at $174 billion.

 Social Security: Totaled $141 billion.

Net Interest: Debt service costs reached $104 billion, contributing to a year-to-date interest total of $931 billion.

Revenue vs. Spending: Year-to-date receipts total $4.485 trillion (up $139 billion from FY25), while outlays have reached $6.284 trillion (up $309 billion). The increase in spending is driven largely by entitlement programs and rising interest payment

National Defense: Accounted for $91 billion.

Revenue Shortfalls: Total receipts were $334.0 billion, down slightly from the previous year.  Notably, customs duties posted a net outflow of $8.55 billion due to $33.38 billion in tariff refunds, marking the third consecutive month of negative customs revenue.

Medicare was the single largest driver of the monthly spike, with outlays reaching $174 billion in July alone.

Monthly Surge: This represented a massive increase from $103 billion in June, driven largely by the acceleration of August benefit payments due to the non-business day on August 1.

Year-to-Date Growth: For the first ten months of FY2026, Medicare spending totaled $955 billion, an increase of roughly $131 billion (16%) compared to the same period in 2025.  This growth is attributed to higher enrollment, increased utilization of services, and rising payment rates.

Social Security remained the largest overall expense category for the fiscal year.

July Outlays: Spending hit $141 billion in July, also inflated by the timing shift of benefit checks.

Underlying Growth: Year-to-date, Social Security outlays reached $1.38 trillion, up $71 billion (5%) from the previous year.  This increase is driven by cost-of-living adjustments (COLA), which raised average monthly benefits, and a growing number of beneficiaries as the population ages.

While smaller than Medicare and Social Security, Medicaid contributed significantly to the structural increase in mandatory spending.

Growth: Year-to-date spending rose by $45 billion (8%).

Drivers: The increase is due to higher per-enrollee healthcare costs and sustained enrollment levels.

Additional Mandatory Spending FactorsNet Interest: While not an entitlement program, net interest on the debt acted as a major mandatory expense, reaching $104 billion in July and $931 billion year-to-date (up 11%).

Veterans Benefits: Like Medicare and Social Security, veterans' benefits saw accelerated payments in July due to the calendar shift, contributing to the month-over-month spike.

Trump's Ex-Wife Reveals President Kept Kabbalah Text Close To His Heart

   blueapples on X | ashesofacacia.substack.com

Although President Donald J. Trump declared his longstanding affinity for the Jewish people and State of Israel far before he entered into the political arena, his entrenchment with Zionism has become the defining feature of his second term in the Oval Office. That position has also become the focal point for criticism of the second Trump administration, as critics — many of whom were once his most loyal supporters — have come to question whether the president is intent on putting America or Israel first. That doubt has raised questions that transcend far beyond political concerns into deeper, more philosophical and spiritual realms. One glaring red flag that perfectly distills those questions was observed on the date of Trump’s second inauguration, when he elected not to place his hand upon the Bible when he was sworn in as president. According to an interview with Israeli media, Trump’s former mistress turned ex-wife revealed that decision may have been made because the president keeps another holy book closer to his heart.

Marla Maples, Trump’s second wife, told Israeli Channel 12 news that the president keeps an Aramaic copy of the Book of Pinchas under his clothing close to his heart for “healing and protection.” The portion of the Book of Numbers (specifically, Numbers 25:10-30:1) is distributed among Kabbalistic sects in the Aramaic text Maples referred to Trump’s copy being as an apotropaic talisman. Centered on the biblical figure Pinchas, the son of Eleazar and grandson of the High Priest Aaron, the book is a highly revered section from the Zohar, the foundational text of the preeminent branch of Jewish mysticism known as Kabbalah.

In her interview with Channel 12, Maples described her own deep affinity for Judaism, its mystical elements such as Kabbalah, and the State of Israel, despite maintaining the outward appearance of a Christian identity. The experiences and practices that Maples detailed from her own life drew stark parallels with that of Trump and his family’s, including maintaining a kosher diet, reciting the Shema as a declaration of the Jewish faith, visiting the graves of exalted Jewish religious figures, observing the Sabbath, and frequently visiting Israel.

Although Christian, she says she has kept kosher for more than 20 years, observes Shabbat and regularly recites the Shema.

Her connection to Judaism also deepened through Trump's daughter, Ivanka Trump, who converted to Judaism after marrying Jared Kushner. According to Maples, Ivanka's conversion helped introduce Trump to Jewish traditions as well.

Maples’ involvement with Kabbalah is well documented and dates back decades
