Iran has challenged Saudi Arabia’s claim that the Houthis tried to target Mecca, warning that responsibility cannot be established simply from the interception of a drone near the holy city.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei condemned any threat to Mecca, Medina or Al-Aqsa but also invoked what Tehran describes as previous “false flag” operations aimed at creating divisions among Muslim countries and diverting attention from actions by Israel and the United States.
