Letitia James Seized Nuns’ $19 Million and STILL Won’t Release It So They Can Care for Aging Members

For 123 years, the Sisters of the Congregation of Divine Providence devoted their time and money to help young women in Manhattan through the Jeanne D’Arc Residence.

Jeanne d’Arc Residence is dedicated to creating a welcoming and caring environment for women seeking safe, affordable and temporary housing in New York City. The nuns, whose order is based in Kentucky, have seen their number shrink and their population age.  The cost of continuing to run the residence has become too much to bear as they face caring for their own elderly sisters.

The sisters sold the property to John Catsimidis for $22.5 million. Because the property is part of a registered charitable organization, Letitia James’ office must, and did, approve the sale.

 But devoting over a century to vulnerable women in the city is not enough for James.  Her office seized the proceeds of the sale and, for two years, has refused to release it to them.

James’ reason? She doesn’t like what the nuns will do with their money.

Per The Free Press:

The attorney general’s office told The Free Press that the religious order never provided “a breakdown of what they plan to do with the funds,” even though Christine Sama, the sisters’ lawyer, had told state officials in a January letter that the money would be used “to carry out the exact same activities as Jeanne d’Arc.”

 In an interview, Sama told The Free Press that state officials objected to plans by the religious order to use the money to care for aging sisters at Holy Family Home, the order’s retirement home in Kentucky. They also plan to support their other ministries, which include running a local emergency shelter, supporting immigrant resettlement, and operating health clinics and schools in rural Madagascar.

“They are saying that use is not sufficiently similar” to the building that the sisters sold, Sama said.

James has a history of targeting Catholics.

In July, four orders of Catholic nuns and several Catholic healthcare ministries filed a federal lawsuit against New York, arguing the state’s new assisted-suicide law forces them to participate in ending patients’ lives in violation of their faith.

The case, Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm v. James, was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York against Attorney General Letitia James. The plaintiffs are represented by the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty.

Walmart Worker’s Parents Allegedly Beat Elderly Man to Death After He Confronts Employee for Almost Nailing His Wife with Cart (VIDEO)

 

 A young Walmart worker in Virginia became so triggered over getting called out for reckless behavior that she allegedly had her parents kill someone.

As WTKR reported on Monday, officers responded to a reported assault at a Norfolk Walmart back on June 7 around 3:20 p.m. 77-year-old Bert Atienza was found motionless at the scene and passed away the following day.

Surveillance video, which was first obtained by WTKR, emerged this week showing the moments leading to Atienza’s death.

Atienza is seen in the video wearing a t-shirt and strolling through the supermarket aisle with a shopping cart. Then, two people suddenly show up.

 

One snatches the cart from Bert Atienza and slams him against a shelf. Another person starts hitting and kicking the helpless man as he collapses to the ground.

The two attackers then walk away while Atienza’s traumatized wife, Josephine, kneels on the floor and holds him. He does not move.

Josephine spoke to WTKR this week and revealed several more crucial details regarding the attack that killed her husband of 42 years.

 

She told the outlet that she and Bert stopped at Walmart after church that Sunday to go grocery shopping. Then, a 17-year-old Walmart employee nearly hit Josephine with a cart and refused to apologize.

An angry Bert confronted the girl, saying, “You almost hit my wife with your heavy cart, and you did not even say excuse me or apologize to her.”

The employee responded by arguing with Bert and later threw a can at the couple as they walked away, which missed.

Moments later, Josephine revealed that the employee’s parents arrived at the store and assaulted Bert.

“They crowded my husband, and one of the adults hit him in the face. He fell on the floor. I was terrified. I don’t know what’s going on,” Josephine told WTKR.

She said she begged the couple to stop beating Bert, telling them he had heart problems. They ignored her and continued the assault.

Josephine then revealed her final words to Bert before he lost consciousness.

“My husband was still able to speak, he said, ‘help me, get up,’ but I told him, ‘ No, you’re bleeding. Your mouth is bleeding. Ambulance is coming,” Josephine said. “I look at him again. He has no more consciousness.”

Court records obtained by WTKR show that 42-year-old Erika Mitchell and 44-year-old Travis White have been charged with second-degree murder. Both are being held without bond.

Absolutely Damning Details Emerge About South Carolina Jail Where Mentally Ill White Inmate was Starved to Death, While These Questions Remain Unanswered

   

Damning new information has emerged about the Chesterfield County Detention Center in South Carolina where mentally ill White inmate who was in there on charges of impersonating a police officer, while several questions remain unanswered.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, a South Carolina inmate who told his family he was being intentionally starved inside the Chesterfield County Detention Center has now been ruled a homicide victim, nearly two months after jailers found his dehydrated, emaciated body on the floor of a feces-covered cell with the water shut off.

Gary Donald “Bubba” Blair, 43, was found lifeless on the floor of his E Pod cell at the Chesterfield County Detention Center on July 24. The cell was covered in inches-deep feces.

Blair also had no mattress and was completely naked. Even worse, he went from nearly 300 pounds at booking to 185 pounds at autopsy.

 Blair’s official cause of death was revealed to be “profound dehydration…due to deprivation of water.” Pneumonia, a pressure ulcer on his heel consistent with lying on the floor for days, evidence he ingested toilet water, and profound weight loss were named as contributing factors.

At the center of it all was Jail Administrator Troy Ellerbe, who was accused of racist treatment toward White inmates.

Ellerbe had led the facility since early 2023 before Sheriff Cambo Streater fired him five days after Blair’s body was found. No explanation was given why.

 According to the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s website, Ellerbe was previously hired at the Chesterfield Police Department in 2000 and completed the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. Troy maintained his position as a police officer for the town of Chesterfield until March of 2003, when he was promoted to a Sheriff’s deputy. He then rose through the ranks as a sergeant and staff sergeant.

Ellerbe participated in an interview with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SCLED) following the incident. No charges have been filed against him at this point.

Meanwhile, the following questions remain unanswered and must be determined by the SCLED:

• Who ordered Blair’s water shut off?

• Who saw his condition and failed to intervene?

• What do cell-check logs and surveillance video show?

• Do other complaints, messages, or treatment records corroborate racial targeting?

• Why did no one obtain emergency medical records as Blair’s weight collapsed?

• Who will be held accountable?

There is also extremely troubling information about the detention center. In eight years, five inmates have been found dead, and all of them are White.

This is surely not a coincidence.

The Sheriff’s department also has a history of corruption, from drugs to sex offenses to financial crimes in the jail.
