Six months after the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, the global fertiliser supply chain has collapsed in key regions, creating a dual crisis of physical shortages and soaring costs. Since March, commodity intelligence platform CropGPT has directly surveyed thousands of farmers every month, across eight countries to measure the impacts of the crisis. The data shows a potentially catastrophic impact on global food and beverage – coffee included – supplies and prices in 2027.

CropGPT’s findings reveal that only 43% of farmers surveyed got everything they needed, with farmers in India – which feeds more people than any other country in the world – reporting they have been short of fertiliser for six months. In the Ivory Coast only 6% of coffee farmers were fully supplied in August, while 40% could not get any fertiliser at all. El Nino is forecast to peak just as the effects of fertiliser shortages and thinner harvests come in, multiplying the threat to global agriculture.

CropGPT’s data also unveils a stark economic divide. Where crop prices are strong, such as coffee, farmers have paid more and carried on. Where they are weak, farmers have cut back or stopped buying fertiliser. Farmers who cannot obtain fertiliser face yield loses of up to 50%.

  The founder and CEO of CropGPT is ominously warning that the world “cannot absorb a shock of this magnitude without supermarket prices exploding and people starving”…

Commenting on the findings, Rob Weston, founder and CEO of CropGPT, said, “The market is fundamentally mispricing the sheer scale of this crisis. Traders are understandably watching the forecasts to understand the impact of El Niño, but the real catastrophe is already happening on the ground.” He explained that when 57% of farmers across key agricultural regions are reporting they cannot access or afford the fertiliser they need, “we are not just looking at thinner margins, we are facing a global food crisis. Global food systems cannot absorb a shock of this magnitude without supermarket prices exploding and people starving.”

Cops Fingerprint an 11-Year-Old Boy, Tow His Electric Dirt Bike With a City Wrecker, and Threaten a WARRANT After He Rode 300 Feet From Home to Go Fishing

   

An 11-year-old’s ride to a fishing spot in Oviedo, Florida, ended with police stopping him, fingerprinting him, towing his electric dirt bike, and ordering him to appear in court.

Cade Kirchner, a sixth grader, was riding toward a nearby pond with his fishing pole on Labor Day, September 7.

His father, Chris Kirchner, said Cade was about 300 feet from home and traveling on the road’s shoulder.

The family says the bike was limited to 20 miles per hour. FOX 35 Orlando reported that police classified it as a motorcycle under Florida law.

They say the 4,500-watt machine has pegs instead of pedals, so Florida law classifies it as a motorcycle, not an e-bike, meaning it needs registration, insurance, a motorcycle endorsement, and a licensed adult rider.

The citation was issued under Florida Statute 320.02 for an unregistered vehicle, which requires a court appearance.

Because Cade had no driver’s license, they put his fingerprint on the ticket to satisfy ID rules. The bike was towed because it “is not legally allowed on the roadway.”

 

Oviedo Mayor Megan Sladek called Cade a “good kid” but said officers’ hands were tied by state definitions. Police added they could have piled on more citations and chose only one.

“The State of Florida regulates motorcycle use, and the definition of what counts as a motorcycle and what counts as an e-bike,” Mayor Sladek said.

“Even if it has two wheels, if it doesn’t have pedals, the State of Florida will classify that as a motorcycle and not as an e-bike.”

Body-camera footage shows an officer warning Cade that he had to appear in court or “they’re going to put out a warrant.”

The hearing is scheduled for a school day, meaning the sixth grader will have to miss class. ClickOrlando reported that his father plans to ask prosecutors to dismiss the case.

According to the news outlet, Cade got his e-bike after raising $900 through his summer business selling squirrel tables.

 Russia ties Black Sea grain deal with Ukraine to halt in oil refinery strikes

 Both the Russian and Ukrainian governments view Turkey’s proposal for a moratorium on Black Sea shipping attacks as “positive”, but Kyiv does not expect a breakthrough soon because of Moscow’s “irrelevant” additional demands, regional diplomats familiar with the issue told Middle East Eye.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan told local media on Saturday that Ankara had sent proposals to both sides, but that their positions on the Black Sea were “difficult to reconcile”.

A Turkish official told MEE that around 72 ships had been targeted between January and the first week of September, often in drone attacks.

Of those vessels, 50 had ties to Turkey through their ownership, management or the nationality of their captains, the official said.

Russia Begins Oil Exports From Its Giant Vostok Arctic Project

 Russia has begun commercial crude exports from Rosneft’s Vostok Oil project, putting barrels on the water from its new Arctic terminal after years of sanctions, investor exits, and construction delays.

Three ice-class tankers loaded about 250,000 metric tons of crude from the Bukhta Sever terminal on the Taimyr Peninsula in September. Two carried the oil to Murmansk for ship-to-ship transfer. A third headed for Asia through the Northern Sea Route. A fourth tanker is waiting to load.

Industry sources expect exports to average about 150,000 barrels per day this year, equal to just 7.5% of the 2 million bpd once envisioned for Vostok.

Much of that initial supply is coming from Rosneft’s mature Vankor fields. Rosneft says development of northern fields, including Payakha, could lift exports to around 600,000 bpd in the second half of 2027 and 1 million bpd by 2030.

 A Left-wing pro-Palestine activist who claimed to be black and of Palestinian descent has been revealed as a white Jewish woman from an Israeli settler family. The Telegraph has the story.

Hannah Gann, a teacher at The Workshop School in Philadelphia, had been a local pro-Palestine activist.

She claimed she was sending money to family in the Palestinian territories and a former classmate alleged she used make-up to pretend that she was black.

She was outspoken in her community on the subject and had previously been accused of antisemitism.

Videos online showed Gann’s involvement in local Palestinian activism, including in a session on ‘scholasticide’, the destruction of educational infrastructure, in Gaza.

Gann’s true identity was exposed over the weekend when two local activist groups of which she had been a member released a joint statement claiming she had been lying about her identity and cut ties with her.

The Senate narrowly defeated a War Powers Resolution on Thursday that would have directed President Trump to end the war with Iran, though the vote doesn’t negate the Iran War Powers Resolution that was passed by both the Senate and the House several months ago.

The resolution failed Thursday in a 49-50 vote, with four Republicans — Senators Rand Paul (R-KY), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Susan Collins (R-ME), and Thom Tillis (R-NC) — supporting the measure. It marked the first time Tillis, who is not running for re-election, voted to end the war.

Just one Democrat, Senator Jon Fetterman (D-PA), voted against the bill, something he’s consistently done, and Sen. Angela Alsobrooks (D-MD) wasn’t present for the vote. If Alsobrooks did vote in favor of the resolution, Vice President JD Vance could have cast a tie-breaking vote to kill the bill, as he did with a Venezuela War Powers Resolution earlier this year.

Israel displaces hundreds of Palestinians amid wave of demolitions in West Bank

 Israeli forces carried out a mass home demolition campaign in a village in the southern occupied West Bank on Wednesday, leaving dozens of Palestinians homeless.

Military bulldozers and soldiers arrived in Janba, in Masafer Yatta, south of Hebron, early in the day and demolished 24 residential structures, 16 agricultural structures, 16 solar panels and 14 water tanks, according to Israeli rights group B’Tselem.

Around 176 people were displaced, including 85 children.
