BREAKING: Iran is reportedly struggling to find ITS OWN MINES it dropped in the Strait of Hormuz, per US officials, which is why the Strait is still limited — NYT

America's allies should send in MINE SWEEPERS to help!

They can't even locate their own mines and lack strong capabilities to safely get them out.

There are reportedly some safe passageways, and the IRGC has said ships could collide with sea mines

Iran's Foreign Minister mentioned "technical limitations" when he agreed to open the Strait of Hormuz

JD Vance will DEFINITELY be addressing this during negotiations tomorrow in Pakistan.

minesweepers only really work (any boat can do it) once , the gulf off of Corpus is littered with mine shapes that were never recovered because they were silted over within hours of being planted. even with the gps locations as a known the sonar could not detect them. I'm pretty sure Iran is beyond moored mines that were produced in the 1940s.

The local WX channel says that starting Sunday and lasting for at least a week, the temps are supposed to be in or near the 80s.
Evidently, they're mixing up NE Indiana with Texas or S. Florida.
The rule-of-thumb around these parts that it's not frost-free until at least Mother's Day, a month from now.
I'd love to get my tomato plant in a month early, but the gypsies at the Main's seasonal greenhouse in New Haven aren't even here from Florida yet.
Mother's Day is their big weekend. I look forward to having tomatoes that don't taste like cardboard every year.
Better get the A/C units tuned up for Kim today when it gets warm enough to go outside. They're calling for 60 later this afternoon. 39 when I got up.

The ceasefire agreement between the U.S. and Iran is a two-week truce, brokered by Pakistan, aimed at halting hostilities and enabling negotiations for a broader peace deal.  The terms are not fully public and differ between the versions presented by each side, leading to ambiguity and conflicting interpretations.

Iran's publicly released 10-point plan includes demands for a U.S. commitment to non-aggression, continued Iranian control over the Strait of Hormuz, acceptance of uranium enrichment, lifting of all primary and secondary sanctions, termination of UN and IAEA resolutions, withdrawal of U.S. forces from the region, compensation for war damages, release of frozen Iranian assets, and cessation of hostilities on all fronts—including in Lebanon.  However, U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that the publicly leaked version does not reflect the actual negotiating points, calling it a "workable basis" but emphasizing that the real terms are being discussed behind closed doors.

Additional key points:

The U.S. insists there will be no uranium enrichment under any final deal, contradicting Iran’s demand.

The status of Lebanon is disputed: Israel claims the ceasefire does not apply there, while Pakistan asserts it does.

Iran has agreed to allow safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz for two weeks, coordinating with its armed forces, easing a major disruption to global oil trade.

Negotiations are set to begin in Islamabad, with the U.S. delegation likely led by Vice President JD Vance.

Both sides claim victory, but analysts describe the ceasefire as fragile and ambiguous, with potential for rapid resumption of hostilities if talks fail.

The President of Pakistan said the agreement does include Lebanon. Maybe we can ask him.

A/C been running since February , coastal flooding advisory till nine tonight (wind swells) got some rain last week, so far we've gotten about 4 inches this year. neither of the two type 1 VWs I owned ever blew steam and their air-cooled engines were in the back.

We're going from 'Kim's too cold' season to 'Kim's too hot' season EARLY this year.
We'll probably set some records this week, I'm sure.
I remember a bad ice storm on my birthday, which was earlier this week, when my Dad was still alive pre-1976.
There was a late frost when my wife was still here after Mother's Day and we lost all our garden plants.
That was back when we did a pretty good sized garden and had to redo it all.

I'm not looking forward to the electric bills.
Makes me wonder what's in-store for summer.
The sun's still low enough that I get a shit-ton of solar gain, especially hot days from my southern exposure windows.

The 10kBTU downstairs unit is doing OK with it 60 outside. We'll see how it does at 100 this summer. The arborvitaes keep it shaded in the afternoon.
I'll mess with the 6kBTU unit upstairs tomorrow morning.

"Mommy, if big cows can have little cows, and big horses can have little horses, and big people can have little people, why can't big trains have little trains?"

"That's a real good question. You should ask the engineer that question."

"Mr. Engineer, Mr. Engineer, my Mommy sent me up here to ask you, if big cows can have little cows, and big horses can have little horses, and big people can have little people, why can't big trains have little trains?"

"Kid, you tell your mother that the Northern Pacific railroad always pulls out in time."
