Judge Zia Faruqui apologized in open court to the man accused of trying to kill President Trump at the White House Correspondents' Dinner.
In September 2025, a DC man named Edward Dana was arrested after threatening to kill President Trump and the Metro officer who detained him.
Faruqui erupted from the bench when the DOJ dismissed the case and apologized to Dana in open court — the same month he told a separate hearing that DOJ's handling of Trump-related prosecutions was "embarrassing for the government."

Seven months after Dana, Cole Allen – a man who signed his final email to his family "Friendly Federal Assassin" – crossed state lines with a shotgun, a pistol, and three knives, sprinted through a security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton, and shot a Secret Service officer in the chest.
Faruqui is the judge assigned to that case too.
He issued a court order expressing "grave concerns" about Allen's jail conditions, then told Allen directly in a hearing: "Whatever you've been through, I apologize for the prior week."
And also told the court that January 6 defendants were treated better than Allen – putting an armed, self-described assassin above Trump supporters who walked through open Capitol doors on his personal sympathy scale.
Conservatives nationwide are calling for Faruqui to be removed from the bench.
It is not going to happen.
Magistrate judges serve eight-year terms and can only be removed by the district court's Article III judges – the same bench that's 11-to-4 Democrat – under standards requiring incompetency, misconduct, neglect of duty, or disability.

Knesset lawmaker Limor Son Har-Melech described an Israeli convicted of murdering three Palestinians a ‘holy righteous man’ on Tuesday.
Har-Melech claimed that convicted terrorist Amiram Ben Uliel was ‘innocent’ in the 2015 arson attack on the Dawabsheh family’s home.
Speaking at a fundraiser organized by the Justice for Amiram movement, Har-Melech, a member of National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir’s Otzma Yehudit party, declared that ‘there has never been a prisoner who has been in solitary confinement for eight years, cut off from people and the world.’
Ben Uliel was convicted in May 2020 of three counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder in a 2015 arson attack in the West Bank town of Duma, south of Nablus.
He threw a firebomb into the Dawabsheh family’s home while they were sleeping, immediately killing 18-month-old Ali Dawabsheh and critically wounding his parents, Sa’ad and Raham, who died several weeks later in the hospital. Their son Ahmed, then 4 years old, survived with severe burns. Ben Uliel was sentenced to three life sentences plus 17 years in prison for attempted murder and an additional 10 years for arson.

Meteorologists on X are once again warning about a powerful El Niño, pointing to a new plume of warm subsurface water moving across the Pacific "like a freight train." The latest water temperature data suggest that El Niño later this year could rank among the strongest on record, with potentially significant implications for the Lower 48.

Across the U.S., an El Niño influences seasonal rainfall, especially during winter. The stronger, more active jet stream typically shifts southward, bringing wetter-than-average conditions to the southern U.S., including California, the Gulf Coast, and the Mid-South.
