There is an alternative that would drastically reduce the military budget.

Institute a permanent draft.

However, those decrying the military cost would NEVER allow their children to be drafted.

People are loud to use the advice of Eisenhower concerning the MIC. However the same people never mention the other half of his wisdom. Ike said, MANDATORY SERVICE FOR ALL AT AGE 18. Choice military service or civil service.

The military is so short they may ask Congress to lower entry age to 16.
