This US heartland has been flooded for five months. Does anyone care?

Dating back to late February, about 550,000 acres of land have been underwater in the rural Yazoo backwater area of the lower Mississippi delta. About half of the acreage is farmland, creating devastating effects in a region where agriculture is the lifeblood of the economy. While flooding in the region is common, this year’s floodwater has hung around longer than ever.

When we worked Garth Brooks in Iowa City, Iowa, the hotel was low lying near the river and had sand bags around it. That year the Mississippi flooded badly. That river there was the Iowa river. ;)

So about 300 acres are under water. Who give a fuck? There 913 million acres of farmland in the USA so that is only 1/3rd of 1/10th of 1%. Less than 1 acre per 3,000 in the USA are under water.

As recently as a few weeks ago, the rivers here in SW Missouri were up and farm fields were inundated. The fields still have not been planted. On higher ground now the corn has already tassled. ;)
