/compilation of instances where people stepped in to defend others, and to defend themselves. This shows that situations can come out of nowhere and get out of control quickly, and it's best to be aware and prepare for such events.

When I was a young man making deliveries for the florist shop in Chicago, we witnessed a purse snatching. We were in the delivery van. We chased the guy with the purse. He ran a long way about a block and half and then cut thru a gangway.

I had to bail out of the van and continue the chase on foot. I caught the guy in less than a quarter block. I grabbed him by his sweater and threw him to the ground. He was armed with an 11-inch butcher knife.

They gave me a Chicago Police Citizens Award. That was in the dresser drawer when my furniture disappeared from Golden City. :-/
