Despite whatever Nancy Pelosi spouts off in public, Democrats are determined to impeach President Trump.
But they are running out of time and paths of investigation to pursue.
The Mueller report turned out to be a bust.
The Southern District of New York closed up their investigation into hush money payments made during the 2016 election to two women claiming to have carried on affairs with the Trump without filing any additional charges.
The Democrats’ last chance was a lawsuit to force the President to turn over his tax returns after the Treasury Department rebuffed a request by House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal.
And now it looks like the court fight over Trump’s tax returns will last past the 2020 election.
The Washington Post reports:
Neal has stressed that his lawsuit, which was filed after the Trump administration refused a subpoena for the tax returns, is motivated by the need to conduct oversight of the administration rather than politics or the timing of the election. Neal has led a deliberative probe for the president’s records, relying closely on legal counsel, although he has faced internal criticism from lawmakers for moving too slowly.
This week, attorneys for the House panel asked the judge to expedite the case. But even some Neal allies are growing pessimistic.
“It’s hard to predict; we’re going to push” to get the returns before the 2020 election, said Rep. Daniel Kildee (Mich.) of the Ways and Means Committee, who has defended Neal and says Democrats should continue pursuing Trump’s tax returns after the presidential election. “It’s just, given the amount of time it takes for cases to move — unless the court makes a decision that these arguments are not complicated, and they’re going to expedite — it’s going to be tough. ” If Democrats don’t have Trump’s tax returns by the start of the New Year impeachment will die.
The left can’t head into the Presidential election fighting an unpopular impeachment fight.
And this court case deals a death blow to Nancy Pelosi’s hopes.

Your view is correct, looking at the outcome from a logical, pragmatic position.
Out front on stage, the dems have 20 or so oddballs that are the laughing stock of the political world. All too quiet are the Clintons and Obamas. Without a white or black knight coming to the dems rescue, Trump will win in voter count and electoral college.
Are the Dem money people satisfied to write off the 2020 election without a gamble????

When doing odds assessment on democrat votes, one must consider ALL sources of votes, bar none.
I live in County that voted 75 percent for Trump. The other 25 per cent will vote for ANYONE the dems put on the ballot. I have always voted CONSERVATIVE or I dont vote.
How pliable are voters? Go back to Lyndon Johnson. He received 65 per cent of popular vote, the greatest ever. His record speaks for itself. Are the dems really willing to let Trump have four more years by running a member of the trash group now frothing at the mouth on political stage???
