Farmers need a certain number of growing days to produce various crops. Corn can no longer be grown in thousands of zip codes. The author added a section to his website where you can enter your zip code and see the decline since last year of growing days. My area is down 9%. Some area were down 47% and quite a few were down 17% or so. Only state with a longer growing season is Alaska which was unseasonably warm during the Maunder Minimum.

-18.9% here.

EDIT: I haven't been farming for a few years now but I know that the farmers are using genetically modified seeds/hybrids that will mature quicker. I see maize right now that's nearly ready to harvest (Sept) when it was always November before it was ready.

Start transplants early, then plant after a week or two for a shorter season outdoors. Or go completely greenhouse.
