Eckersly throws a gopher pitch to give the Dodgers a win. ;)

The man who created the X-Files, Carter?, said he grew up in LA so he thought of Vin Scully as the voice of God so he gave his female lead the name Dana Scully.

That was not a gopher pitch to give the win away. Eckersly was not that kind of man.

gopher pitch

A gopher pitch or gopher ball was a home run, and hence you had to "go for" the ball since it was out of play.

We only had one ball when we played in Chicago. It was not like the big leagues where they had a large supply of balls. We played 16 inch softball with our bare hands.

Eckersly still threw a home run ball. ;)
