Russian President Vladimir Putin pledged to protect Christians threatened by the conflict in Syria, appealing to the plight of religious minorities as justification for Russia's involvement.

After a meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Wednesday, Putin expressed sorrow over the persecution experienced by Christians in the Middle East, according to the Associated Press. Russian leaders have worked to develop close ties with Syria's Christian communities. Melkite Catholic Archbishop Jean-Clement Jeanbart has called Russia's intervention in the country a source of "hope for the country's Christians.

"The Middle East is the cradle of Christianity, and Christians are in peril there, facing persecution, being killed, raped, and robbed," said Putin. "Russia will do everything to protect Christians in the Middle East. We must help them restore and preserve their holy sites, preserve their congregations."

Pootey and the Ruskies have a long range problem that inhibits their desire to "expand" to the English Channel.

To their immediate South there are about five billion hungry Asians looking for food and a place to live. Russia has a 2000 mile open border with China. What does that portend? Imagine two billion Messicans in Mexico?????

I'm i... I don't know. Maybe I'm too concerned to speak bluntly... still... I see some significant difference between coptic Christians and western xtians. I mean the Pope does wear scarlet and velvet in towers of ivory and gold. And the few coptic I met in Montreal wear very modest and kind to me.

?????????

Good heavens....History Ada...

Lenin and Stalin planned, plotted for years to be on English Channel. They very nearly made it at end of WWII. THAT IS WHY 75 YEARS AFTER THE WAR WE ARE STILL IN EUROPE.

Now there is a counter balance with the rise of China on Russian doorstep. By 2040 India will be most populace country in the world, surpassing China. Study Geo/politics. More humans need more space and food.

We are entering a period of Global Cooling. People in China will not go north looking for food. Won't be any. During the Maunder Minimum (1645 - 1715), the price of wheat rose 400% due to reduced solar radiance. Go South, not north.

I told my friend that I think the Universal (global) Roman Catholic Church is likely the most evil and vile institution on earth.

That should make my position perfectly clear.

EDIT: By the way, I should admit being raised Catholic, was an altar boy through 8th Grade, and even attended religious instruction classes because I attended a Public High School. My dog tags in Vietnam indicated that I was Catholic. That was before I researched the Catholic Church, and pondered Catholic teachings from my youth. The History of the Catholic Church wreaks of death, torture, mental abuse of children as well as physical sexual abuse. The Catholic Church relies upon spreading false guilt among the faithful and instilling fear in people. The Catholic Church steals property and preys upon widows and widowers in their most darkest times.

That was then and this is now. 75 years ago Germany planned to be in Moscow but that doesn't mean there are currently interested.

Lets see now, with that theory, WE ARE STILL IN GERMANY TO KEEP THOSE NASTY GERMANS FROM INVADING PEACEFUL RUSSIA....

That theory will get anyone an F in history class.

Wasn't that the theory behind NATO? To reassure the Germans so that they wouldn't rearm?

Why would Russia want to expand to the English Channel?

If they had allowed Patton to kick the Russians back in to Russia where they belonged, none of that Iron Curtain BS would have ever happened.

The Russians almost got Austria. It was just dumb luck they got aced out. Austria was mountainous and it would have been difficult to get men and materiel in there to invade western Germany. East Germany proved to be a better buffer.

You must also know some of the history of Germany in the 1930s. Germany annexed the Sudetenland since there were large amounts of German speaking peoples in that area. binged.it/34nPE2x

when I worked for State of Illinois we had a Sudeten German as a Lead Worker. He lived in Skokie. This is where the Jews lived before they moved up and out. Before then they lived on the north and northwest sides of Chicago. Kraus was very frugal. When we ate at a restaurant for lunch of even breakfast he would say, "Just leave a quarter (for tip). That is enough." ;)

They will freeze. In the Maunder Minimum (1645 - 1715) there were fewer sunspots and reduced solar radiance. The price of wheat rose 400%. The people of China starved. They will go south not north as their ancestors did when the Medieval Warm period did when it ended in 1200 AD.

Not hardly.

For those of us that were around and interested at the time, Truman had his hands full with Russia BEFORE THE WAR ENDED. Germany was the least of anyones worry.

At the time France, Italy and Britain very nearly went communist. It was only the US military presence that kept it from happening. Had the US military been withdrawn, Stalin would have been on the English Channel, his lifelong dream.

Agreed. Only Patton's tanks kept the Russians at bay. If Patton had been allowed to do it he would have kicked their asses back into Russia and the Iron curtain would have been avoided. Of course there were many areas that Patton could not cover, such as in the Balkans. That was the doings of FDR who had become feeble by that time. ;)

The US didn't need NATO as a bulwark against the USSR. Could do that all by itself. NATO was to keep Germany from worrying.
