Four years prior to the Revolution the Scots Irish went over the Carolina Appalachia and fored their own independent Republic apart from British rule. The Scots Irish had been battling British rule for over 200 years. During the American revolution, a British Colonel Ferguson had posted notice that he was coming to execute all mountain men who did not surrender. He was camped at King's Hill in the Carolinas. The Scots Irish heard of his threats and gathered 1,000 mountain men. They spent 2 weeks closing the distance on Kings Mountain. The Hillbillies had what they called Kentucky long rifles. German machinists made rifle bores to improve accuracy. British muskets were worthless at a distance except for volley fire from in rank file order.

British lost big in an hour. October 7, 1770 in what is today South Carolina.
