When I was a young man making deliveries for the florist shop in Chicago, we witnessed a purse snatching about half a block from the shop. I was driving the van. The old lady who got snatched ran out in the street in front of me and I had to blow the horn.

The guy with the purse ran up the alley behind the shop. I raced up there and screeched around the corner back there. There was a big parking area there for people who lived nearby.

The guy with the purse cut thru a gangway and I had to bail out to chase him on foot. By this time he had run the equivalent of two city blocks. I caught him by his sweater in the middle of Sheridan road and slammed him to the ground.

A woman who lived nearby saw what happened and ran back to where she lived and had the woman at front desk call the cops.

The guy had frizzy hair and likely was a Rican or Mestizo of some kind. He was armed with an 11 inch butcher knife. We recovered the purse.

They awarded me a Chicago Police Citizen's Award. It was in the dresser drawer when my furniture disappeared from Golden City. Those people got in there and stole everything they could, even the sheets off my bed. The pastor from the church we sold the house to told me the back door was swinging wide open and they had to put a hasp and padlock on it.

Someone told me the pastor gave my furniture to some people that did not have any. But I did not sell him the furniture, only the real estate. Some people you give them an inch and they take a mile.
