We have a credit based system which means we cannot have money until we take out a loan. This leads to over investment "booms" based on false signals. Too many McMansions and too many malls.

I used to get raw chickens from a butcher across the street from Post Office. When Wal Mart opened, he couldn't compete. So he closed the shop and sold all the equipment. It is like that in a lot of places, including mall towns. ;)

I used to go into a pistol range that was in the basement under a bowling alley in north suburbs of Chicago. That range may still be there. But I have not been there in many, many years.

One time I was in Shore Galleries in Lincolnwood. It was right across the border from Chicago. This is where I got handcuffs that I used when working concert security.

One time I was in there and there was a Russian fellow in there looking at guns. He told me he wanted to fulfill his rights as a new citizen by purchasing a firearm. He did not tell me where he lived. God bless him. ;)

I believe I saw a story about this a while back. Large groups of nogs walked into a store and walked out with merchandise without paying. The employees could do little to stop them, and by the time the cops got there the perps had disappeared. ;)

It could be argued that it's been this exploded credit system extended to everyone that's created runaway inflation and the Feral Reserve printing up endless Monopoly Money.

With respect to a further point regarding the long gone Mall Boom Era, Malls are RIP precisely because their businesses & space could not nor WOULD NOT be secured from the vandals, thieves, and escaped zoo animals by the Authoritahs -- aka our Overlords.

However...why celebrate the demise/sabotage of a free market idea that was actually good? The concept to enclose several shops, businesses, and entertainment facilities IN ONE PLACE was magnificently convenient.

What ultimately killed Malls was outlaw roving zoo animals who didn't have to respect LE because LE was ordered by the PTB TO IGNORE THE PROBLEM.

In the early seventies, you could have a nice date at a mall, good restaurants (and I do not mean a food-court), walking around window shopping, with several movie screens if the latest release film was in order.

It was a great place until it became nogville.

One cop was writing too many traffic tickets. So his supervisor told him he could not go on the street. He was sitting in his car when a black guy walked past him and dropped a crack pipe.

He jumped out of the car and nailed him. It turned out he had a lot of bags of crack on him plus a large amount of cash.

I doubt they will give him a commendation for this either. ;)

Yup...hard to believe Malls were ever as you described. (Nostalgia hurts sometimes, doesn't it?)

It was THE meeting place for everyone, for everything. A pleasant experience.
