Seems to me that calls for her removal for tearing up a printed speech has a lot in common with calls for removing Trump over a phone call. Both are exaggerated claims and overreactions.

Don't get me wrong. Pelosi isn't fit to be speaker. But not because she tore up a few sheets of paper. Disrespectful? Yes. Rude? Yes. Something Trump might do? Yes. Politically damaging to herself? Yes. Impeachable offense? No.

The suggestion that Trump's presented speech instantly became a legal document subject to legal protection the moment Trump handed it to her seems a reeeeeeal stretch. Did Trump even sign the thing? Did it contain any certification stamps at all? Most likely it was just a printed copy and nothing more.

Pelosi has free speech rights, and tearing up her copy would fall under first amendment protections, it seems to me. I'm not going to advocate first amendment rights only when it's speech I agree with.

Pelosi wasn't given a printout of the 2020 SOTU Address like it was her own personal "souvenier" copy to shred if she wanted to do that. She was presented with an official document for the records of the People's House of Representatives - not for a Freedom of Speech "protest" at "Pelosi's Party House".
