Closing schools for eight weeks or more may have a greater impact on mitigating the spread of the novel coronavirus than two- to four-week closures, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said.

Shorter-term closures will likely make little difference in the spread of the disease, new CDC guidance states, even as K-12 school districts across the country began announcing school closures within the shorter time frame.

Closing schools also comes with its own setbacks, namely a potentially negative impact on academic outcomes, which the CDC also acknowledged in its updated guidelines.

But the schools don't teach anything anyway. Not as if the kids will miss getting assaulted by bullies.

I can't imagine the country's baby-sitting, feeding, and indoctrination factories closing down for two months. That would throw all the parents who depend on those services into a reality-check nightmare.

reality-check

When I worked for the State Highways in Illinois I had a small sign on my locker that said: REALITY CHECK.

When working on the highways literally inches or feet from certain death you needed that. I knew of several just in District One (Chicago metro area) who were killed or seriously injured working on the highways.

One time we were working almost in front of the Arlington yard on Arlington Hts Rd. I was flagging on one end. Some guy blew the stop sign on the other end and drove into the hole when they were spreading asphalt. The Foreman threw a cone on his hood and stopped him.

I threw down the stop and slow sign and went across to the truck and called in and had them send the P.D. out there. The cop wrote him a ticket (disobeying flagman) and told him, "You better pay this because if you don't the Judge will throw the book at you."

You know why he blew the stop sign? Over hot sandwiches. Those sandwiches were not very hot after he got done with the cop. ROTFLMAO!
