My Dad was living in a Senior Building. He was getting coin magazines.

Those mags do not get put in your mail box. They are placed on a shelf below the mail boxes.

He had a leather bag full of 90% silver coins. The dumb ass would not lock his apartment door even though he knew he had those valuables in there.

Some guy that worked there got in his apartment, found the coins and stole them. What else can you say about him? :-/

7 bucks over spot for junk silver? Shit, that's like 60%. you'll never recoup that.

Got one of those $50 bags a month ago for $640.

Seems like the lower paper silver "spot price" raised the cost of the real stuff.

He had a leather bag full of 90% silver coins.

My grandfather (Mom's side) had a pretty good sized box of old nickels, not buffalos. Don't know what it was about, but I'd guess they were pre-WWII when they were really made out of nickel.

Probably be worth some bucks today, don't really know for sure.

I wouldn't mind having some rhodium laying around personally. ~12k/oz

When I was a rockhound in Illinois, one of the dealers I knew would kid me about getting Rhodium plated jewelry. I wasn't quite sure what he meant. ;)

War Nickles made from '42 to '45 are 35% silver and have a large mint mark above Monticello on the reverse. D, S, or P.

First time a P was ever put on a coin.

OK, that makes sense. I guess silver was about the only thing not in short supply during WWII.

It's my understanding that large quantities of silver were borrowed from the US mint to make wire for some Manhattan Project machines since they couldn't source enough copper at the time.

My Dad. The asshole took advantage of an easy opportunity.

But you have to ask if maybe he would have done something violent to achieve the gain. :-/
