None of us were alive during that time in Germany. And most of those who were alive then are now dead.
All we can do is to read historical accounts of what happened and try to filter out the bad and inaccurate things and see the truth for what it is or may have been.
I usually read things with a grain of salt. But when you consider that before hostilities broke out when Germany invaded Poland in 1939, Germany asked the U.S. to sell them DDT to kill the lice that were causing the Typhus in the camps. The U.S. refused so Germany did the best they could with what they had. ;)
BTW, I was sending messages to this girl in Norway. I mentioned Vidkun Quisling and she blocked me. Quisling was a collaborator during WW II. I think bringing up those unpleasant memories from the past was more than she could bear. :-/

Interesting stuff.
Of course I had a Foreman when I worked for the State of Illinois named Johann Kraus. He was a Sudeten German. When Germany annexed the Sudetenland, he volunteered for the Waffen SS.
His father protested to the camp Commander that the was being treated too harshly in boot camp. He was arrested as a dissenter and sent to the camps in Germany. The last I heard he still had not found a trace of him. A lot of people disappeared in those camps.
Kraus was captured by the Russians. He was riding on a prison wagon with a female guard. She fell asleep and dropped he rifle. He jumped off the wagon and retrieved her rifle. Then he woke her up. She gave him a bog kiss and told him if she had lost her rifle they would have killed her. Krause was one of the few to be repatriated. Most of them died in the gulag as late as 1952.
Old Kraus is likely dead by now since he was not in such good health as it was. He was very frugal and when we were in a restaurant he would say, "Just leave a quarter for a tip. That's enough."
One night I was out on Night Patrol. A snow squall blew in off the lake and turned everything white. I called for back up. Kraus lived in Skokie, which was way south. This is where the Jews lived before they moved up and out.
He came out and called me asking, "Where is the snow?" I told him, "It's up north. Come on up here."
It took two of us the rest of the night to clean it up.
BTW, those camps were called "death camps" because of the Typhus epidemics which raged thru them.

The work camps were death camps because ppl die like flies in wars, speshly (as you indicate) with the Glorious Jewnighted States of Amerigo coming to the rescue. But they're mainly known as such today because we're force-fed with Holycost nonsense on all sides.

No idea. You must remember that Germany was a dictatorship and the Elder Kraus was dealing with the military. So when the Commander decided he was a dissenter he was taken away. No trial and no court hearing.
Kraus was Austrian. We had a new guy name Tommy Ras. He was Austrian too. When Kraus found out he started to hum the "Horst Wessel". Just joking. LOL
