Why is the rate of asymptomatic infection so much higher in prison than on those ships, or across the general population?

I believe prisoners have a higher incidence of TB than healthy, although elderly, cruise ship passengers and the general population. This is a lung disease.

My only guess is that prolly more of them are smokers.

Approximately 4-6% of TB cases reported in the United States occur among people incarcerated at the time of diagnosis. The incarcerated population contains a high proportion of people at greater risk for TB than the overall population.

TB has increased in the US and the prison population particularly due to the influx of foreign born. Smokers lung is not transmittable but TB is.

Prison populations prolly have better diagnostics than the rest of US.

The prisons do not have toilet seats. The virus is in urine and feces so flushing a toilet without a lid to cover just aerosolizes the virus and sends it out to be shared with everyone in your section. Ditto for hospitals and nursing homes on the toilet seat lids.

Federal prisons do test everyone for AIDS upon entrance and upon exit. Not sure about coronavirus.

Texas friend who would occasionally get arrested for anti-abortion activities advised me that if I ever got arrested, to refuse the TB test; because if you showed clear, they would put you in general population and it was not wise to go down that road.

I work with a guy that got 10 years for molesting an underage girl. He did the whole 10 years. No time off for good behavior. I bet when they found out why he was in there, the other cons did not give him any rest. :-/
