An Amazon spokesperson told Business Insider that the local leadership that put on the event "had good intentions to honor Juneteenth by supporting a local small business owned by a member of the Black community."

Juneteenth, which falls on June 19, honors the end of slavery in the US. While it's not a federal holiday, several major US companies made Juneteenth a paid day off for employees.

According to a report from CNBC's Annie Palmer, the facility's leadership notified employees last Thursday on a sign in the employee break room that it would provide the meal for employees on June 19 as a way to honor "the Black community by supporting local Black businesses."
The decision to offer the meal was made by local leadership, including the site leader, who is Black, CNBC reports.
The move angered employees, who reportedly took to a private group online to share their frustration, calling the decision a "racist form of celebration" and demanding a paid holiday to celebrate Juneteenth instead, according to CNBC.
The meal has become a racist stereotype that has roots in the film "Birth of a Nation," the silent movie from the early 1900s that portrays the Ku Klux Klan as heroic.

When I was young in Chicago, I worked briefly at Mary Ann Bakery. They had a lot of Greek help. That is how I learned to swear in Greek.
There was a black guy named Freddy who was in charge of the ovens. Everyone used to kid him about watermelons. LOL

Mrs Butterworth was black? I always thought she sounded like Granny from Tweety and Sylvester. Deep, deep, subtle racism, I guess. Never mind that there is nothing negative in her persona unless you are an ultraparanoid diabetic or something. Maybe it was that Sylvester was black, and the audience was expected to make subconscious connections by way of transference. I never knew pancakes were this complicated. "Blues Brothers" Next to be Banned For Racism

The 1980 comedy "The Blues Brothers" is being targeted by social justice warriors and BLM as "an affront to African-American culture, and a racist film that should be banned."
The movie stars John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd as "Joliet" Jake and Elwood Blues along with a number of African-American musicians including James Brown, Cab Calloway, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, and John Lee Hooker in supporting roles.
The controversy surrounds the portrayal of Black characters in the film specifically in the "diner" scene" and its depiction of the "white savior" who adopts black culture as their own and decides they are the best one to defend it.
The way black people are portrayed as secondary participants in their own culture is a sad reminder of times when black minstrels shows served as entertainment for privileged whites.
It’s a disgustingly blatant example of cultural appropriation, with the privileged white males (Jake and Elwood) performing blues music and using the Black musicians as slave labor said BLM spokesperson Sha’Londria Washington.
