I wanna tell y'all a part of my story. The reason that I want to do that, is because my story seems to have become part of all of your stories too...
When I was a young shaver in the early 1960s, my parents had their third and final child. Her name was Carol Ann, born on Christmas Eve. Carol wasn't quite right, she was sickly, wouldn't nurse, etc. The doctors weren't any help. A block down the street, an RN named Lois Vachon (and family) lived. Lois reached out to my mother and got involved and taught my mother how to force feed my sister and help Mom help Carol to survive, since the doctors wouldn't.
Mom was in the doctor's office one day, and snuck a peek at the doctor's file about Carol and saw the word "Mongoloid," which was 60's speak for Down's Syndrome, which they hadn't figured out back then. The MDs were going to let Carol die. With Lois' help and a lot of work from the whole family, Carol survived.
For those of you that don't know what Down's Syndrome is, it's an extra chromosome splice somewhere that fucks shit up. Look it up on wiki if you want to know more.
Carol was what nowadays (70s) is considered "severely and profoundly retarded and handicapped. She could never speak, only make some simple utterances, which was her language, wasn't able to walk until she was a teenager, about the time she didn't have to wear a diaper 24/7. She had to wear a diaper at night her whole life until she died at 59 last August of sepsis. She was about the size of a 10 year-old.
I spent my birthday in 1976 at Dad's funeral, my mother didn't wan't a funeral, I guess losing two husbands and almost all of her friends was just too much. I was charged with distributing her ashes. Thank Christ they were in a Ziplock bag in that glued together WalMart urn ($499.00 from D.O. McComb. Thanks David, I thought graduating HS together might've gotten me a LITTLE discount, fucker).
Why is this YOUR story now, you might ask?
Because now all y'all got 200 million+ severely and profoundly retarded and mentally ill children to deal with. Carol was a lot of things, but she was never unappreciative or violent. It's your turn.
I already did my time in the barrel. 59 years worth.

If you missed my point, I guess that I was trying to tell you how tragic it is when somebody is truly repressed and fucked over by life at birth.
The bigger point may have been how truly tragic it is when parents spend maybe hundreds of thousands of dollars to send their offspring to an "elite college" and have their child come back, less well off, than some young Down's Syndrome gal, that the MDs thought would've "been better off dead."
