My cousin has it and I believe is still in the hospital with it. Was pretty bad off but seems to be improving. A friend of a friend also died from it recently. Or so is the word, at least.
The virus is certainly real, but it's danger to society as a whole is virtually non-existent. Still it can be deadly to a very small segment of society. There is also some word about permanent lung damage being suffered by some that didn't even experience severe symptoms.

It sounds a bit like TB. I was given lung X-rays the last time at the hospital.
I recall the old TB Sanitarium on northwest side of Chicago. It was pretty much self contained. There was even a gardening area that fresh produce could be grown in summer.
