Mariah Carey Slams Ellen DeGeneres

Mariah Carey is revisiting an "uncomfortable" memory she has of an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, who pressured her to reveal her pregnancy on air. The 2008 interview recently resurfaced on social media, forcing Carey to remember the experience, as well as the miscarriage she later suffered. Now she has opened up about it in a tell-all with Vulture, which was published on Monday.

"I was extremely uncomfortable with that moment is all I can say," Carey said. "And I really have had a hard time grappling with the aftermath."

During the interview, DeGeneres grills Carey on rumors that she is pregnant. Carey tries to laugh it off but DeGeneres then jumps up off the couch to pour her a glass of champagne. Carey tries to get out of drinking the alcoholic drink with excuses that it is "fattening," but DeGeneres is adamant that they make a toast to her not being pregnant. Carey then pretends to take a sip but DeGeneres notices and exclaims: "You're pregnant."

Shortly after the interview, Carey miscarried. She kept the news a secret until she became pregnant again. In 2011, she and former husband, Nick Cannon, became parents to twins.

"I wasn’t ready to tell anyone because I had had a miscarriage," Carey told Vulture. "I don’t want to throw anyone that’s already being thrown under any proverbial bus, but I didn’t enjoy that moment."

The "Hero" hitmaker added that there was a certain amount of "empathy" that she hoped could have been applied to those moments, but which she did not experience.

"But what am I supposed to do?" she asked.
