"...pork reserves appear to have been mostly depleted by the third quarter of 2020."

Chinese gangs have been killing off pigs ever since African Swine Flu killed 300 million hogs. The Chinese government paid former hog producers to open fish farms so the price of hogs should soar.

That seems kind of a stretch of the imagination. ;)

They planned to go from hogs to fish because they knew fish could not get African Swine Flu. That is what the government decided. I get regular reports from an American fluent in Chinese who used to work in Asia as a food broker.

In the late 1950s, China set about to kill all of the sparrows because they thought they were eating all of the crops. This resulted in a massive increase in the insect population, the true culprits, and ended in mass famine.

I wonder what foods he was brokering?

We would also get some parts at the workshop that were wrapped in newsprint with Chinese writing on it. Not exactly sure if the parts came from Taiwan, but it was likely since the U.S. does quite a bit of trade with them. ;)

Four Pests Campaign

In 1960, Mao Zedong ended the campaign against sparrows and redirected the fourth focus to bed bugs.

It should have been bed bugs in the first place. ;)

When my one neighbor moved out a couple of years back, the manager opened his apartment door. There was a love seat in there. She said, "I put this out by the trash since it was full of bed bugs and he moved it in here."

I would guess the reason he left it behind was the bed bugs. :-/

Tea, coffee and rice. Stopped doing that and moved to east Tennessee mountains.

I would think east Tennessee mountains to be safer and more isolated. ;)
