If the Kraken is from Greek mythology, why does in turn up in Nordic literature and is said to be found off the coast of Norway and Greenland? It is also found in Scandinavian folklore. ;)

BTW, I worked for the Republicans. One day in 1980, I was walking past the Committeeman's office. He waved me inside. He asked if I was working. I told him, "No, I am not."

He said, "I will get you a job." We had a Republican Governor (James Thompson). He told me to get my license to drive a truck. There was a place you could rent a truck for $25 just to take the road test. So I got the license. Then he told me to go downtown to State of Illinois Building and take the test for Highway Maintainer.

I did that and was may the 3rd or 4th to finish. There were a lot of black guys there and many of them were scratching their heads. It was a common sense test.

You needed an "A" to pass and I got my letter of appointment about a month later. I reported to Northbrook yard and handed the letter to the Lead, Lead Worker. He read it and said, "We haven't had a Probation here in three years." What that meant is that I had clout. You needed that clout for various reasons and it got my fat out of the fire several times.

Then several years later I put in for a transfer to Arlington yard. The Engineer called the HQ and told them, "Don't send him where he wants to go. Send him some place far away." They sent me where I wanted to go. The Engineer asked, "Who did you tell?" I said, "Who do you think I told? I told my Chinaman." My Chinaman was my clout, my Committeeman. But it was a different Committeeman than the first one. I helped him move his HQ once and he gave me a picture of Richard Nixon. It had a quite on it from his 2nd Inaugural address.

That was in a dresser drawer of my bedroom furniture that disappeared from the house in Golden City after I sold it. I think the Pastor from the church gave it to some people that did not have any. But I only sold him the property, not the contents of the house.

Well enough of my rambling. I am lucky to recall any of this because the meningitis wiped out so much. ;)
