The CEO of Goya Foods said the company recognized Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as “Employee of the month” after she caused sales to spike due a boycott.

Goya CEO Bob Unanue made the claim during an interview with the Michael Berry Show Monday, saying Cortez’s word-of-mouth advertising led to a 1000% sales increase.

“You know, communism works until you run out of other people’s money to spend,” Unanue said, going on to point out AOC’s boycott was targeted against people of her own race.

“And it’s interesting that AOC was one of the first people to step in line to boycott Goya, going against her own people as supposedly a Puerto Rican woman, to go against people of her own Latin culture,” he said.

“And she’s naive,” Unanue continued. “To some extent, I can understand AOC, she’s young, she’s naive, she doesn’t get it. But then you have someone like Sanders who’s older than us and he still doesn’t get it.”

“We still have a chance with AOC,” he said, adding, “I love her, you know, I don’t like — she didn’t — she was actually our employee of the month, I don’t know if you know about this.”

“When she boycotted us, our sales actually increased 1000%, so we gave her an honorary — we never were able to hand it to her — she got employee of the month for bringing attention to Goya and our adobo,” Unanue said.

“Actually, our adobo sales went really well after she said to make your own adobo.”

As I've mentioned, Goya's salsa verde (green sauce) is a staple here. It adds zest and zing to everything from eggs to fish.
