FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – As employers have reopened business after the pandemic’s peak, many have struggled to find workers. Many are saying people collecting more unemployment money than they would make working at their jobs is to blame.
“If we’re looking at it as a market right now, workers theoretically have the power,” said Rachel Blakeman, the director of Purdue University Fort Wayne’s Community Research Institute. “Because if you need people to get there, then you’re going to need to be able to make your offer a competitive offer.”
As it stands now, the maximum state unemployment payment is $390 a week. Through the CARES Act, people who are unemployed can also collect a $300-a-week supplemental federal payment on top of state benefits. This totals to $690 per week, or $17.25 an hour.
According to Indiana’s Department of Workforce Development, the average weekly claim is about $295 plus the $300 from the federal government, totaling $595, or $14.87 an hour.

I seem to do OK on about 20k/yr investment income. Then again, I don't have a mortgage, car loans or expensive tastes.
I only pay my lawn guy $9/hr in 2009 silver coins. Costs me $18/whack (2 hrs). He walks away with ~$70 bux worth if he was to buy it today. Works out good for both of us.

I need to keep my mouth shut. I decided to run up to Kroger to get a few things I forgot last week. A block and a half from my house, my '93 Sonoma died like you turned the key off. Starter and radio OK, either no fire or no fuel. I had it towed to my buddy Chip's shop a mile away. He thinks it's a fuel pump. That'll be easy to determine, put a little gas down its throttle body, if it starts for a second, fuel pump, if not, probably ignition.
Easiest money the wrecker driver will make today. $55 for 15 minutes. Told Chip that I stopped in to see him last week on my way home from somewhere and I jinxed myself. He called me a effin' dumbass for trying to be nice. No face diapers at Chip's joint. I called Lawnmower Man to pick me up. Told him that he didn't think that cutting my grass was going to turn into a full-time job. LOL He needed to see me anyway, the wheels he ordered for his van were the wrong ones and didn't ship. I taught him about wheel offset. Hopefully he'll get the right ones on the way before they double in price next month.

It was tires and rims. I paid for them, he's good for it. He was when I helped him out getting the van about seven years ago, I think he still is now.
It's a GMC, that's what the problem is. Well, I've been threatening to drag the new (2013 <10k mi) Toyota work truck out of the shop before the gas goes bad. I'll probably do that tomorrow while Lawnmower Man is here. He's taking good care of me, I'll take good care of him.
I might be crazy, but I'm not (too) stupid.
