Here in the hills, over the weekend, no cops, no crime and EVERY ONE CARRIES OR OWNS GUNS.
I wonder if there is some significant difference between the hill billies that live here and the city dwellers of our wonderful cities?

I have lived in this house 45 years. The doors are only locked when all are away.
The only "crime" is by bears now and then, that run off with a bird feeder or two.
We have to be realistic, city culture, especially black culture is not compatable in society, no matter laws passed or good will etc etc.

That's the way I grew up, '50s - '60s, small podunk, segregated, N.TX town. Zero "race" problems, keys left in vehicles parked outside overnight, and I don't remember having a key to our front door.
LBJ's great society killed that way of life for everyone.

I was out cruising late one night in late 70s. I spotted a "salt and pepper" team looking to steal cars. They were driving an older van with little round tail lights. I called in on the CB radio (this was neighborhood watch thing) and they sent the cops out there. I do not recall if they were caught. But I think they spotted me and skedaddled. ;)

Chicago tried to ban new gun registrations. If you had one and it was registered, you could keep it. But no new registrations.
The Illinois Supreme Court knocked that one down. Good for them.
Illinois has what s known as "home rule" where cities over a certain population could make their own laws regarding certain things that would be unconstitutional.
Morton Grove, Illinois banned handgun ownership. We worked with a kid from there. A few of us were calling him a "gunless wimp". LOL
Oak Park, Illinois did the same thing.
But in Arlington Heights they voted the gun ban down 67% to 32%. Someone on the City Council said, "This is a mandate." No one worked the three precincts in Elk Grove Township and they voted in favor of the gun ban. One of our Committee members said, "They don't need their freedom in Elk Grove Township."
I was working a precinct and going door to door. I was wearing my cowboy hat. There was a Saab parked in the driveway of one house. I rang the doorbell and the guy came to the front door. I showed him the lit and gave him the spiel.
Then he asked, "Do you live around here?" I said, "Have you ever heard of Pinedale, Wyoming?" He said, "No." I said, "I didn't think so." Next thing you know there was a story in the local paper that the pro-gunners were bringing in people from the outside. That was pure yellow journalism. ;)
