It is a debt based system. A Depression is a period in time when Unpayable Debts are cancelled en masse. At the bottom of a Depression when the currency has been reduced one third due to debt cancellation, nobody can take out loans to increase the currency. 3 million of 129 million Americans starved to death during the 1930s because we had to wait a decade to create more money and get the economy moving.
