The Spanish, French and Italians established colonies in North Africa long ago. The British were in West Africa and South Africa. Though many of the Afrikaners were of Dutch origin.

The British were even in India. Mahatma Gandhi started a non-violent revolution against British rule about 100 years ago. ;)
