Civil rights attorney, Maya Wiley, who is running as a candidate to be the next mayor of New York City, has been backed by Democrats who regularly speak out against special interests and big money in politics, yet she has worked for organizations that have been bankrolled by hedge-fund billionaire George Soros for decades.

Soros has ties to Wiley that date back to the 1990s and last month he dropped $500,000 into an independent expenditure group, 1199 for Maya, that backs Wiley's City Hall campaign.

The contribution was matched dollar for dollar by 1199SEIU, an influential healthcare workers union that has endorsed Wiley.

Unless the books are cooked in NYC (and I don't think they are), she has as much chance of winning as I do.

Front runners for Dem. nomination (tantamount to election in NYC) are Eric Adams (the Brooklyn boro prez), Yang, and Garcia. If Soros candidate wins, the fix would be in.

Yang would be my choice (knowing nothing about the other two) - does he stand a snowball's chance?

Yang was once the front runner but has slid to 4th. Apparently this Wiley is now 3d. Were I a registered Democrat, I would probably vote for Wiley who is reputed to be a competent administrator. As I am not, I shall vote for Curtis Sliwa.

Maybe things are so bad in The City that he'll have a chance, but the dems seem to have a chokehold on that city and state.

Surprisingly, Republicans (at least nominally if not actually) have won the NYC mayoralty: Lindsey, Giuliani and Bloomberg, for instance. True they they actually Democrats who ran as Republicans when they could not get the Democrat nomination.

Curtis Sliwa is also probably a Democrat and might make a lousy mayor but he does have name recognition. He is running for the Republican nomination against a nonentity whose turn it is.

Great point, DJT is another, perhaps the best example of that.
