I visited Hamtramck about 25 years ago back when it was still Polish, before it turned Muslim.

At a Polish restaurant ate mashed potatoes, beets, and a turnover kind of thing that had filling in it like a pot pie would. (Kind of like an Upper Peninsula pasty, but not as good.) The food was mediocre, but the authentic Polak server gals were cute and friendly. I'm 1/4 Slav so we were like cousins.
