LOL, reminds me of the time I tried to help a guy get his car running. New spark plugs - except he had neglected to reconnect plug wires. Didn't want to break new plugs. And they were only "finger tight". Again, didn't want to break them.

I've seen that broken motor mount issue several times. Chained the engine down a time or two when the broken mount didn't have a mechanical travel stop in it.

That broken rotor was pretty impressive. My daughter after she was married had an old Jeep Cherokee with ventilated brake rotors. She wore the rotors so bad with metal on metal that the pad -- what was left of it -- had worn completely through the solid outer ring and was riding on the vent spokes. Other daughter with a Toyota Avalon wore her front brake pads so thin that they fell out without even loosening the caliper. Fixed it in the parking lot of her office so we didn't have to have it towed.

Replacing the AC compressor on yet another daughter's Silverado later this week.

Never considered water backing up back into the exhaust -- not with the engine running, that is. That makes sense though, say if your car is parked and a flood comes up. Interesting, thanks.

Always understood hydraulic lock to be from the intake -- puddles or other deep water -- or sometimes coolant or even oil from a blown head gasket.

More likely water sucked in through intake, but basically an open valve + water at pressure greater than that in cylinder is subject to laws of physics. Then valve closes and cast iron connecting rod loses argument with water over who is more compressible.
