When I took the test to become a Highway Maintainer in Illinois, I had to go to the State of Illinois building downtown.

There were a bunch of black guys there and most of them were scratching their heads. It was a common sense test.

You needed at least 90% correct to pass.

About a month later I got my Letter of Appointment in the mail. I started on Probation.

When I got to the yard and handed my letter to the Lead, Lead Worker he said, "We haven't had a Probation here in three years."

Right there that was a testament that I had clout. ;)
