When I drove big trucks in New Mexico and Arizona, we would drive thru immigration checkpoints. If it was at night we would turn on lights inside of the tractor so they could see inside.

In the daytime we would just slow down enough so the INS agents could see that we were alone and if driving team the sleeper curtain was closed since the co-driver was in the bunk.

In Illinois they had checkpoints set up at night trying to get people on DUI charges. The same rule would apply and we were waved thru because we were working. ;)
